My Life in France, by Julia Child and Alex Prudhomme.
Shortly before her death at age 92, Julia Child sat down with her great nephew Alex and began to record a memoir of her time in France. Her husband worked for the US government and was sent to Paris in the late 1940s. When they arrived, Julia couldn't cook, and didn't speak french. I think you know the rest of the story.
Julia Child has never been a favorite personality of mine, but some of the foodies I love are huge fans of hers. She inspired them to cook or some such. So I thought I'd see what all the hub-bub was about.
Good book so far - she has just arrived in Paris and is in love the with food and culture. She humorously details her pronunciation of french words, and her alarm at the amount of wine that is consumed mid-day.
FYI for anyone interested in my last book posting Run - not very good. No where near the caliber of Patchett's previous books. If I hadn't read her other books, I would likely not have even finished Run.
