Guerdon

guerdon - noun - \ˈgər-dən\ - something that one has earned or gained; reward, recompense

This was the winning word in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Let's use it today, shall we?

From my guerdon I shall retrieve roma tomatoes, cilantro, bell peppers and onion to make killer salsa.

Ladies used to wear guerdons to tuck in those extra pounds. Now they just let it all bulge!

On another note - I finished TENTH CIRCLE by Picoult. Definitely NOT a feel-good book. Very heavy. Have you read it? I didn't enjoy it as much as PLAIN TRUTH. How's your new Follett coming?

We're going on vacation next week - any good "fluff" book recommendations? I always enjoy your suggestions. Thanks!

The Follett book is good - probably not as good as Pillars, but I'm only half way done - I'm enjoying it a lot.

The new Binchy book was kind of fluffy - Whitehorn Woods - and it's more of a collection of short stories, so it's easy to read in spurts. Baldacci's Wish You Well wasn't fluffy, but it was light enough for a vacation read.

Where are you guys going?

Thanks for the suggestions. The library is on my agenda for later this week.

Hold on to your Mickey ears - we're going to Disney! None of us have ever been, so we're very excited. We're usually not the themey-amusement park types, but who hasn't wanted to see Cinderella's castle since they were a little kid? (Okay, maybe Rob hasn't, but he has ALWAYS wanted to ride Space Mountain). We're very excited. Military-types also get one free day at Sea World, so we'll take advantage of that as well while we're in the neighborhood. Thanks for asking.

Looks like your kids have received some wonderful academic and Boy Scout awards of late - congratulations.

Meredith, just this evening, "bridged" up to Junior Girl Scouts. This means that she completed three years of Brownie Girl Scouts and is moving up to the next level (complete with green vest). She also went Girl Scout camping this past weekend SANS MOM for the very first time(I've been, like, four times with her - I've done my part). She had a blast. Plus, Christine "bridged" from Daisy scouts (this is what you do when you're in Kindergarten) to Brownies. I figure I've got some camping trips in my future with her, so I'd better save my stamina.
