Tenderfoot Scout

As of tonight, Ben has completed all requirements for the Tenderfoot rank in Boy Scouts. He has been part of his troop for only three months - some boys in his troop have been there over a year and have not completed Tenderfoot requirements. Way to go, Ben!
(The official rank will be awarded during his troop's Court of Honor on May 19th, but I just had to tell you now!)

Let's see. He had to learn to tie two different knots, and how to whip and fuse a rope. He learned first aid for a series of minor things like scrapes, burns, frostbite, snakebites, etc. He learned to identify three poisonous plants and explained how to treat reactions to them. He memorized the scout law, oath, motto, and slogan, and explained the finer points. He learned how to fold, raise, and lower the flag properly. He learned the heimlich manuever. He learned about safety when hiking and what to do if you get lost. He had to perform a physical fitness regimen for 30 days and show improvement in at least some of the areas. He had to meet with his troop master to cover all of these things, and finally, last night, met with a board of review (four parents) who quizzed him about his experiences and what he learned. I may be forgetting a few things, but that pretty much covers it.
